Amstelveen
is a small town, but often just perceived like a residential zone of Amsterdam. The easiest way to reach Amstelveen from Amsterdam is to get on tram 5 or 51 from Centraal Station, the ride takes about 35 minutes. Amstelveen is also within an easy ride by bike, the lanes from Amsterdam are well marked, with Leidseplein as a possible starting point.

Amstelveen is a home to a few modern art museums, such as Museum van der Togt, which holds an unique collection of glass. In summer you can take a return trip from Amsterdam to Amstelveen with a historic tram (Electrische Museumtramlijn). The Amsterdamse Bos is a lovely park for rambling, picnicking, or playing sports, while the Bosmuseum is dedicated to the information about its history.

The Cobra Museum voor Moderne Kunst (modern art) hosts the work of the Cobra group, established in 1948 by Dutch, Belgian and Danish artists, which introduced modern art to the Netherlands.
