The English Bookshop, Amsterdam
Entering into the first floor of the shop, your attention is held by a central book display. Their collection ranges from contemporary and classic literature, poetry and plays, to historical and travel non-fiction.
They also stock Dutch authors, that have been translated to English. These make great reads for your self or a friend, and it's possible to get your buy gift wrapped if desired by one of the friendly staff.
On the floor below is a large children's section where every Sunday a story reading for young ones is held. Other events taking place include Poetry evenings and book signing events. They also have a newsletter you can subscribe to which advertises the various activities.
Primarily a community bookshop visited regularly by local expats, The English Bookshop stock only what they regard as good literature, as opposed to the traditional 'best-seller.' Their speciality however is that they can recommend to you different titles and authors based on your last read.
A bookshop to say the least, they invite you to browse through their collection at length, taking a seat on their sofa with a coffee to get the most out of your visit.
Described as a "place for people to meet, where stories are whispered and books come alive". The English Bookshop welcome you to have a relaxed and enjoyable visit.
