Scheepvaartmuseum Filmfestival
Film Festival of the Marine Museum
Only few films, but they are shown in truly unique surroundings. To attend Scheepvaartmuseum Filmfestival you do not need an entry pass - must have a boat and an FM radio to receive film’s sound.
The films are shown on immense screen in the open, while spectators sitting on their boats, smell the water and the breeze of the Ij Lake and feel the movements of the water. This experience is more than a 3-D cinema or Smell-O-Vision – it is real.
Timing:
Third weekend of August; admission of boats to the area starts at 5 p.m., screenings begin at 9 p.m.
Venue:
Oosterdok, former dock of the Amsterdam harbor – North of Scheepvaartmuseum and behind Arcam. The screen is constructed just at the VOC ship.
Additional info:
Admission is free.
You are requested not to barbecue on your boat – however, you are advised to take some food and drinks, warm blanket and some rain protection clothing (but if possible not an umbrella, as it obstructs the view to others). On a warm summer night, you might need anti-mosquito gear. A light on a boat is requested.
Forgot your FM radio? Organizers sell one for € 3,50.
Organizers:
Scheepvaartmuseum (currently closed because of the renovation, VOC ship exhibit remains open for the public).
