Hotel des Arts Amsterdam

This is an old, small hotel in the very centre of Amsterdam. At first it seems obsolete, covered by dust, nearly forgotten. An old clock greets you in the hotel’s window and entering you know already everything - Hotel des Arts feels like a time vehicle taking you back in time. Typical Dutch townhouse – wooden bulks, thin brick walls, steep stairs (no lift), the attic. As for the furniture, it also seems like from moved from a movie of 1940-ties - it is old, dull and dusty. A tram passing in front of the hotel shakes the whole house.

If you are after the value for your money, this modest hotel may seem expensive. Its main asset is its central location – you are in the middle of everything: 5 minutes from Dam and Rembrandt square, 1 minute from De Munt, 10 minutes from the Red Light District, 15 minutes walking from the Museumplein. Hotel des Arts modest building had been squeezed between two very good department stores – an exclusive Bonneterie and popular Vroom&Dreesmann, V&D. Try food or just grab a delicious sandwich at the animated V&D restaurant called La Place or else take a coffee in the nearby elegant Café De Doelen (Kloveniersburgwal 125).

Among the other plus points of Hotel des Arts, we should mention its friendly staff, good bedding and decent showers. As for the rest, you must step outside into the city; the reason of your visit after all.
