+ Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the three quad rooms we booked. Air conditioning in the room and Eurosport on the TV which is always a bonus. The hotel also were willing to cook you food anytime of day or night which was most welcome at four in the morning after a bit of a sesh.
- The twin room we booked was across the road in the annex and to be fair was pretty poor quality, the lady on reception did warn us when we checked in though that rooms in the main building were three star and rooms in the annex were two star (prob more like one star).
The hotel is about a five minute walk from the tram stop then about a fifteen minute ride to Leidseplein where most of the action is. About 2 euros for a single on the tram, 6,50 for a day ticket and 15 euros for a taxi back....

Relatively clean.
- Lack of restaurant on-site, bar food not quite sufficient. Lack of wireless capabilities due to construction should have been mentioned on web, major factor in booking this location and was not happy to find no access at all from room with own system.
Extra charges for everything. IE- parking, net access on windows machine in Lobby, televison, safety deposit "locker" in lobby, breakfast.

There was no hair dryer
Management would not move us in fear that some one else would check into the hotel and they would not like the amenities

+ The hotel was clean and most of the staff was happy and helpful. Due to a special the day we checked in we were able to upgrade our room for a small cost.
It is a bit of a hike into the center of Amsterdam but not a big deal. Trams & buses run regularly so you can rest before or after your day of sightseeing.
Just down the street from the hotel was a supermarket, pharmacy, post office and other stores which is very handy.
Except for noisy people on our floor one night it was very quiet.
If you are happy with a very basic & clean hotel you will not be disappointed. We would gladly stay there again.
- The showers have no curtains or doors so water goes everywhere. The drain in the shower was very slow so water would go over onto the floor.
We asked for an extra towel off the cart in the hall, as we used ours to clean up the water on the floor, and we were yelled at to call reception. He wouldn't give us a towel!
We asked for a wake up call one morning and never received it.
Wish you could order a small breakfast. The only breakfast offered is buffet and it is not inexpensive.

- price/quality: 4 only because in Amsterdam hotels are very expensive and not so fine ;it is not because we did not enjoy our stay in Hem Hotel.

- the room some of my friends were staying in the lamp got broke and a taxi was booked from our room when we weren't even there and the blame was put on them but when we mentioned checking out the cameras the hotel staff soon back off, but every thing else was very good.......

HEM Hotel Amsterdam is perfectly located in west of the centre of Amsterdam, only 5 minutes by car from the RAI Convention Centre, World Fashion Centre and World Trade Centre. With public transport - within 2 minutes walking distance you’ll find tram stop 'Westlandgracht', line 2- you reach the city centre in approximately 15 minutes. The trip to the RAI convention centre will take you 20 minutes. Within 10 minutes you can reach the hotel from Schiphol Airport (there is an airport shuttle service from and to Schiphol Airport which is not for free).
