+ Great rooms and great staff. Very good location
- no stairs for 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor, so we often had to wait for the lift. But as you see it's a realy minor problem. This hotel is realy great.

+ Location exactly downtown. Price/location ratio acceptable
- Very dangerous stairs: too risky to climb up with a suitcase. No desk in the room: I had my breakfast sitted on the bed. Breakfast looks poor quality, even if it is not.

- this hotel was not value for money. we stayed on the second floor, the heat in the room was unbearable.We asked for a fan but there was none available.for the price, the hotel should be fitted wit airco.we were outraged that there was NOT a fan in the room as standard.we got very little sleep as the room was unbearable.I would not recommend this hotel to anyone!

+ Decent sized room for 4 people. Tiny foyer but decent. Decent location close to the Damrak and red light district. Reasonable price. Suitable for backpacking types and those on a budget.
- VERY HOT. This is common with these types of European hotels in the summer but in this case you cannot properly open the windows for ventilation and they do not have circulation fans. We borrowed a laughable 6 inch fan from the front desk for a 4-person room. Small bathroom. Questionable cleanliness of linen.

- Very busy location, noisy
We stayed in building 2, very steep stairs, difficult to bring up our luggage to the third floor. (extreemly difficult)

Hotel de Gerstekorrel is a pleasant hotel located in the very heart of Amsterdam. The hotel has recently been renovated and the rooms are in very good condition; no wonder that guests come back year after year. Since recently the hotel has free wireless internet as well, which is available in most rooms. The hotel is situated close to the famous Dam Square, major shopping streets such as De Kalverstraat, the canals, wonderful restaurants and unforgettable nightlife. The fabulous Amsterdam museums, art galleries or even the ajax football stadium are easy to reach either on foot or by public transport. Also the Central Station is within walking distance (5 minutes). The multi-lingual hotel staff is well known for their very friendly service will make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible, providing you with excellent excursion packages, out-of-city trips and bicycle rentals from the bicycle rental shop just around the corner.
