Hotel Flipper is a cosy and friendly family hotel situated in a quiet, residential street in the southern part of the centre of Amsterdam. Located within walkin distance from the Amstel station, the Albert Cuijp market, the Heineken Brewery, the Museum District and many well-known shopping streets it's the ideal location to start your visit in Amsterdam. Out of the noisy city centre but still within easy reach (10 minutes) by public transport.

Hotel Flipper has cheap basic standard rooms as well as rooms with private facilities. With the hotels friendly atmosphere, but most of all, because of the outstanding personal service, you will feel at home right away.

With your own laptop you can make free use of the wireless WiFi Internet throughout the hotel. In the lobby there's an Internet computer that you can use free of charge.

+ Great value & nice warm compact room, good front of house greeting

- TV didn't work in room 8 - all channels were blank, made worse by the fact that I could hear TV in other rooms!

+ Service: With normal breakfast at 8, they served us at 7 on our checkout day when we had to leave early to catch our plane. Location: The hotel is near a tram stop. We chose to travel further to get a quiet backstreet location instead of nearby in the noisy downtown. Hygiene: The lavatory was cleaned daily, and we got new towels each day as well.

- We were charged ¤90 weeknights, ¤100 weekends. This is an absolute ripoff for a one-star hotel. Comfort: This is a minor point, but there needs to be more, or brighter, light in the room. We found it difficult to read.

+ If you want to experience the locals of Amsterdam, this hotel is ideal. It occupies part of an apartment block a few klms south of the city center where you get a real feel of the place. No.4 tram is just up the street so getting around is no problem. There is a shopping mart and everything you need close by. Breakfast is included and is quite good. Lots of fresh fruit etc.

- The hotel is an older one and so does need some renovation to get it up to scratch, one day. Most rooms have a shared bathroom but these are quite clean.

+ The staff were extremely friendly and helpful; the neighbourhood was a major positive element as it introduced the guest to a less 'tourist' oriented Amsterdam; rooms and public spaces were generally kept very clean.

- Breakfast could have been held until 10h30 rather than 10h00.
