+ Very good location, close to center of town. Beautiful view if you get a room overlooking the canal. Most of the staff was very friendly, with the exception of one receptionist. This hotel has wireless internet access, which is very good and reliable (albeit expensive). The breakfast is excellent(buffet style). The cafe next door is more reasonably priced and has good food and excellent coffee.
- Rooms are nice but very small. I was booked initially into a smoking room, although I had asked for a non-smoking room when I booked the room. The receptionist was very unfriendly and basically said, it doesn't mean anything that you asked for a non-smoking room, it depends on what is available. They moved me the next day, but to a room facing Doelen street, which was noisy especially when the next door restaurant closed around 2 am. Beware: they advertise wireless internet access, which is great but I thought it was VERY expensive. In the US the charge is usually about $3 for your entire stay, but this hotel charges around $9 per day!

+ Location was good enough that we would stay at the Doelen on any future trip to Amsterdam.
- Signed up for boat trip (on hotel boat), but this was undersubscribed and therefore cancelled. We were informed at the last minute (i.e. at reception, minutes before), leaving us at a loose end and with no dinner planned. We think we could have been told 24 hours earlier that the cruise was not going to take place.

+ Location excellent and reception service very good.
- The room was too small for two persons and the ceiling was partly too low to stand up!! Don't remember the room number, but it was on the upper floor with entrance to balcony from the window!!. In that room you could not imagine it was a four star hotel and we payed full price.

+ We did a Europe tour in February and booked every city in every country online. Our stay in the "NH Doelen Hotel Amsterdam" was the most pleasant surprise. Great view, clean, comfortable room, nice staff, great location - room was a bit compact but we liked it's size and really thought it was well designed. Would definitely recommend it! As...I guess I am now doing.
