Amsterdam Fun Museums

Every year millions of visitors come to Amsterdam and while most of them visit three major museums of reputation: the Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank House and the Van Gogh Museum, there are also other museums and galleries far less meaningful. They make an effort to entertain tourists using the formula of an attraction park. Most popular among them is Madame Tussauds, but there are also other shows: Heineken Experience demonstrating the production of the famous beer, tries to entertain and to promote the brand. The famous Amsterdam football club Ajax, has also an attraction for its fans called Ajax Experience. Some of these attractions use the old museum formula. But do not expect Sex Museum, Erotic Museum, Hash and Marijuana Museum or Torture Museum to be overly scientific, because their aim is first of all to entertain.

Tattoo Museum
Beautifully presented, rich and colorful exhibit on the theme of tattooing. Located a bit off city center but not far from it, Amsterdam Tattoo Museum presents history, tradition and different meanings of tattooing in various cultures. Complete workshops of tattooing artists have been exhibited together with thousands of artifacts and memorabilia.

Madame Tussauds
A large indoor amusement gallery built inside four upper floors of a department store building in the very center of Amsterdam: wax figures, special effects and actors recreate the Dutch Golden Age era, while visitors may wander around and make pictures. Also a rich and modernized waxworks cabinet, with many Dutch and international famous people wax figures.

Heineken Experience
An old brewery in the home town of the producer of one of the world’s favorite beers, operates today as the Heineken company museum and an amusement gallery for the adult beer lovers. While the museum exhibit and the old brewery are impressive, on top of Heineken pilsner, which always tastes excellent, you may also like the Heineken Experience attractions.

Erotic Museum
Located right in the heart of the red-light district, this museum reflects the history of the area. Five floors full of erotic enjoyment and artwork.

The Hash, Marijuana and Hemp Museum
This small museum located on two unattached venues at one of the old canals of the Red Light District, is one of the Amsterdam best kept secrets. On the outside, one of many attractions of the local tourist industry - inside an interesting collection of objects and artifacts, paintings and photographs related to cannabis but also to its more important cousin – the hemp plant and its multiple, non-hallucinogenic uses.

Sex museum
Another must when in Amsterdam: The Venustemple houses an extensive collection of erotic paintings, pictures, objects and recordings from different ages and cultures all over the world.

Torture museum
This small and dark museum shows some of the most horrid inventions to torture and execute people. Complete with straps, spikes, weights and blades, these machines will make you thankful that they are no longer used in modern times.
