Go treasure hunting at the biggest flea market in Europe – where bargain hunters and shopping lovers unite.

About the market

IJ-Hallen is a huge second-hand market in Amsterdam that sells almost everything. Once a month, two industrial warehouses are filled with 750 stands that sell second-hand clothes, shoes, antiquities, jewellery, books, and even furniture. Stalls are also set up in the outdoor area between the two buildings.

A quick ferry ride from Amsterdam Central takes you to an absolute treasure trove of bargains and special finds. The area is full of market stands, people, food stalls, and an eclectic atmosphere. For a fun and budget-friendly adventure, IJ-Hallen is a must-see!

Tips for visiting Amsterdam market

  • Bring a backpack or some extra bags with you to carry your purchases. Not all vendors will be able to provide a bag for that vintage coat or antique vase.
  • Bring small change – very useful for when you have negotiated a good bargain!
  • It can be cold in the warehouses, so wear some warm clothing.
  • "The early bird gets the worm". If you are dedicated to making that special find, it’s best to come early before someone else gets it!
  • If you are after cheap sales, Sunday afternoon is the best time to shop at IJ-Hallen. Vendors usually start discounting their stock an hour before closing time, so that they don’t have to bring everything back home.

Visiting Amsterdam is easier and cheaper with a "City Pass".
