Hotel The Rookies Amsterdam

Since June 1998 Hotel The Rookies, formerly known as Hotel Uptown, opened its doors beside the well known coffeeshop that shares its name. The fact that the hotel is owned and operated by the team responsible for one of Amsterdam's most popular coffeeshops, the hotel's central Leidseplein location and a price range to suit most budgets makes Hotel The Rookies a good choice for younger travellers looking to experience some Amsterdam craziness.

Location
Located right beside The Rookies coffeeshop, Hotel The Rookies is just a short walk from Leidseplein and its surrounding bars and nightclubs. From Centraal Station take trams 1, 2 or 5 to Leidseplein and, with the Burger King on your left, walk along Korte Leidsedwarsstraat. A handful of Italian restaurants and Argentinian grills later and the distinctive clouds-and-cherub sign of The Rookies will be on your left hand side.

Dining
Breakfast is included in the room price, and is served daily in the hotel between 08:00 and 10:00. The Rookies coffeeshop also serves refreshments and cakes, though be certain to order the right type of cake as some may have more than just chocolate chips inside. The surrounding streets abound with restaurants, whether Italian, Argentinian, Greek or practically any other national fare you care to look for, so you can be certain not to go hungry.

Rooms
Hotel The Rookies' 12 rooms are divided into 3 singles, 2 doubles, 4 twins and 3 luxury twins; luxury rooms come with a bath instead of shower. All rooms have a safe, TV and telephone as standard as well as ensuite bathroom facilities with either a shower or bath. Rooms are cleaned daily by the hotel's housekeeping staff.

Services at Hotel The Rookies are basic enough, this close to Amsterdam's busy centre it's assumed you will be too busy to spend much time in your hotel. The hotel does offer an outdoor terrace to relax on between adventures, fax / photocopying services and luggage storage. Guests may also make use of complimentary wireless internet access throughout the hotel.

Coffeeshop
Worthy of particular mention is The Rookies coffeeshop located beside the hotel. Since 1992 The Rookies has been known as a great place for expats, tourists and locals alike to hang out and enjoy some of Amsterdam's more unique delights. Good music, friendly staff and a large smoking area means that your exploration of Amsterdam's coffeeshop culture has a great place to start.
