Boekenmarkt op het Spui

Book market AmsterdamA small but attractive book market in the very center of the town, on the Spui, a small square just in front of the entry to the Begijnhof. The booksellers arrive here from all over Netherlands, and as far as Groningen. You may find the list of them on the book market website: www.deboekenmarktophetspui.nl

If you are a collector – talk to the merchants, obviously they do not travel with all their books, but they will bring the book you need in a week after, or send it to you by mail.

Mostly just older popular art and photography books are here on sale, but sometimes really interesting books you just missed some years ago also reappear. Many low cost prints, often just reproductions produced for the tourists, also on sale.

The feel
A lively, a bit touristy book market. For a real collector, a chance to meet the booksellers from other cities in the Netherlands. Prices way above the average.

Located: Het Spui, 1012 WZ Amsterdam

Open: Friday of each week, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

As on any market in any country: beware of pickpockets.

How to get there:
Walking: ca. 10 minutes from the Dam square.
Tram: Het Spui: tram 1, 2, 5, 13, 17 & 20
Car: do not take the car there, as it will be impossible to park it nearby. Your only chance is to leave it on one of the canal streets (metered parking), deeper into the ring of the Amsterdam canals.
