Art Amsterdam

Art Amsterdam made its reputation under the name Kunst RAI as an important contemporary art fair, with an accent on the most recent developments in Dutch art. As last years the fair became more international in its character, with several galleries from Belgium, Germany, France and some galleries from the United Kingdom, Denmark, Poland, Switzerland, Korea and the United States taking part, its name has been changed to Art Amsterdam.

Art Amsterdam is an interesting exhibit, with more than twenty individual shows prepared especially for the fair. In the last years, additional shows accenting the connection between Amsterdam and Berlin - another young avant-garde city in Europe, were organized.

During Art Amsterdam, there is plenty of art by new and only emerging artists on offer, mostly not highly priced. All disciplines are represented – there are paintings, graphics, sculptures, jewelry, design objects, photographs. New art disciplines, like performance and video art are also represented, but become last years increasingly marginalized, because of their difficult commercialization. Increasing number of visitors buy art at Art Amsterdam, and the organizers claim multimillion, growing each year turnover from sales during the fair.

Time: every year for five days in May. Next Art Amsterdam fair will take place from May 7 through May 12, 2008.
