Amstel Hotel Amsterdam

Hotel Amstel AmsterdamSince its opening in 1867, the InterContinental Amstel Hotel in Amsterdam has been the most prestigious hotel in town and probably in the whole Netherlands. Originally, the hotel’s owner Samuel Sarphati planned for a much bigger building with two more wings, in the shape of a "U". However, the new wings were never built, and Amstel Hotel remained relatively small, as designed in the first stage of the construction by the architect Cornelis Outshoorn, with only 55 rooms and 24 suites.

Today it comes across as beautiful and luxurious, quietly standing at the bank of the Amstel river, with a small square behind – (Professor Tulpplein Square). Its interior is full of Italian marble, warm in colours, plushy and formal. Rooms are spacious and completely equipped, with excellent bathrooms. The Amstel Hotel has a fitness room and a luxurious swimming pool. Wi-Fi internet is available throughout the hotel. Service is attentive to the superlative – you will be picked up at the airport, assisted, informed, receive petit déjeuner a la carte and so on; all your wishes will be respected.

Rooms on the river side ("river view rooms") are very quiet, with superb views giving the guest a feeling of residing far outside a busy European city. Still, the Amstel Hotel is not far from the centre of Amsterdam – the most important museums will be about 20 minutes’ walk, with the centre of town even a bit closer.

Hotel Amstel AmsterdamAmstel Hotel is today a part of the InterContinental chain and bears five stars, while its restaurant La Rive presently holds two stars of the rarest variety, those from the Michelin Restaurant Guide. Its food is excellent, a French Mediterranean cuisine in an original, modern interpretation by Chef Edwin Kats. Its wine cellar of more than 3000 bottles will certainly offer you wine to match the food. Dress code is expected. There are also six large elegant banqueting rooms, a bar for an informal drink or meal and a terrace with river view for drinks and light meals.

Being the place to stay in Amsterdam, the Amstel Hotel draws celebrity and cosmopolitan clientele from the whole world. If you can afford its prices - try it!
