Bike City Amsterdam

Bike City LocationBike City is something different in Amsterdam, a bike rental company that does away with garish advertising and lets you blend in with the everyday cycling crowds. Their rental bikes all come in understated colours, mainly black, and bear no advertising whatsoever. Combined with an eco-friendly ethos, this approach makes for a less commercial bike rental experience with a real Dutch feel.

Open 7 days a week from 9:00 until 17:30, Bike City caters for individuals or groups, with discounts available for large groups or long term rentals. In order to rent a bike you will need to bring a passport or other official I.D. and put down a deposit, using either a credit card or EUR 50 cash.

Bikes

Bike City SortimentThere are three types of bike available for rent: single speed pedal-brake bikes, 3-speed hand-brake bikes and, for longer journeys, 7-speed aluminium frame bikes. Bikes can be rented for periods from 4 hours to 5 days, except for the aluminium bikes, which have a 2 day minimum rental. All of Bike City's bikes are new and kept that way, with old ones being sold off and replaced over time.

Extras

All bikes come with safety locks, which the staff are happy to show you how to work. Baskets, waterproof pannierbags, rain ponchos, puncture repair kits and airpumps are all available on request. In order to help you find your way around Amsterdam once you have your bike, Bike City offers detailed bike maps, including pre-planned cycling routes. In addition to bike rental, you can have your bike serviced or repaired, should you own your own.

Rates

Rates vary depending on the type of bike rented and the time period involved, starting from EUR 10 for 4 hours on a single speed bike. Additional rates apply for extra days over the 5 day maximum period and for extra hours over the time agreed; these also vary depending on the time involved and type of bike. Bike City, like any Amsterdam bike rental company, reserves the right to alter prices without notice.

Environment

It's not just cycling that Bike City focuses on, they're also pretty keen on recycling. All of the packaging and materials that are used in the course of business are recycled, including the bikes' tyres, in an effort to keep Bike City's carbon footprint as low as possible.

Location

Situated in the middle of the Jordaan, Bike City is only 15 minutes walk from Centraal Station and 5 minutes from the Anne Frank House. Walking North along Prinsengracht, the turnoff for Bloemgracht is on the left hand side just after crossing Westermarkt.
