Bus entry and parking in Amsterdam
Busses and other large vehicles cause trouble in the narrow and congested streets of Amsterdam city center. Amsterdam municipality tries to regulate their entry into historical areas to the minimum.
Ban for most busses
If a bus vehicle has registered weight higher than 7.5 tonnes, then it cannot enter Amsterdam city center without obtaining an official exemption.
Exemption to the ban
Exemption can be obtained if a group of children, elderly or disabled visitors are carried directly to an educational, cultural or artistic institution.
Enforcement
Many cameras have been installed in Amsterdam center. These cameras scan all vehicle licence number plates. If you violate the rules you can be fined up to €1100.
Stops for bus boarding
There are many stops for the purpose of only boarding / disembarking a bus. It is allowed to stop the bus for only 10 minutes. These stops are located on the ring road S100 that goes around the historic city center. No official permit is needed for this.
The following is a list of stops that are on the S100 ring and do not require permit. There are more stops in Amsterdam but the others require permit or are farther from city center.
