Charging electric vehicle in Amsterdam
Just as in all other western european cities, also in Amsterdam electric cars are popular. The good news is that in Amsterdam the charging infrastructure is very developed and accessible.
Location of EV charging points in Amsterdam
There are many many electric vehicle charging points in Amsterdam. We could even say that every few tens of meters on every public parking street inside the A10 ring. Home charging
If you can not park your vehicle on your own real estate property, then you can not charge your electric car from your home by bringing electric cable across the city pavement. Even if you use protection for the cable or hang it in the air.
If you park your car in your garage or on your garden then of course charging is permitted.
Home charging is of course the cheapest and ranges from 8 c/kWh with dynamic contract. The average is around 14 c/kWh.
How to pay for charging
To pay for charging your EV in Amsterdam you can use a charging card or a smartphone app. You can use a single app or card for multiple charing companies. Roaming is available.
Bank cards are also accepted by some but not all chargers.

There are multiple EV charger providers and fees depend on the provider. So they can be different from charger to charger.
Most chargers use simple price per kWh. Where you pay a price per kWh, but some chargers have complex tariffs.

- peak / off-peak rate
- transaction fee
- subscription fee
- VAT
Fast charging stations (over 50kW) provide electricity at around 70 cents per kWh, “regular” slower charging stations (11kW or 22kW) provide electricity at around 40 cents per kWh.

Parking for electric cars in Amsterdam
Parking fees are the same for petrol vehicles and electric vehicles in Amsterdam. But electric car owners get priority at parking permit requesting.
An electic vehicle can be parked in a charging spot only when it is connected to the charger.
