Amsterdam Airport duty free shops slogan and logo – See Buy Fly became one of the recognizable brands of the world. The shops are open daily with most of the shops opening their doors at least an hour before the first plane departure and closing 30 minutes before the departure of the last flight.

One price to all destinations

Starting from 1999 duty free shopping has been abolished inside the European Union and since then many airports apply two different prices depending on the destination – tax free price for people who fly outside the European Union and higher price for people traveling inside Europe. The prices are on average 10% lower than in any major European city, but special offers go as low as 35% below the usual prices.

Methods of payment in duty free shops at Amsterdam airport

All major world currencies are accepted according to the actual exchange rates, but you have to remember that your change will be given always in euros. You may also pay with major credit cards, PIN Maestro and traveler cheques of not higher than € 100,- denomination.

Recommendation - plan your time

When you are busy shopping, add at least 10 minutes for a walk to your boarding gate. Amsterdam Airport has the extensive departures areas with some of the gates far-away from the main shopping areas. Avoid holding the departure of your plane and hearing your family name announced on all airport speakers.

Security regulations limitations

Because of the European Union security regulations, all purchased liquids as alcohol and perfumes will be sealed in a plastic bag at the duty free shops cashier. You are not supposed to open the sealed bag before you arrive to the place of your final destination. The receipt of your purchases will be added to your boarding pass.

Pick upon return service

If you fly from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and plan to return to Amsterdam, you may leave your duty free shopping at Schiphol and collect them upon your return. A special service will store your purchased items free of charge in a sealed bag for up to 30 days. You will be able to get them upon your return to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport even at the time the duty free shops are closed – 24 hours a day.
