Art Gallery Hotel Amsterdam
The Art Gallery Hotel in Amsterdam is a reasonably priced, cosy little 2 star hotel with a nice view of the Rijksmuseum. The hotel was established in 1999, with modern facilities in the bright, airy rooms. One original feature, kept as it was before the hotel, is the typically steep Dutch staircase, so be prepared to lug your cases up a flight or two of steps.
The Art Gallery Hotel is one of the most conveniently located hotels in Amsterdam for those who want to see all the city has to offer. From the front of the hotel, the Rijksmuseum can be seen across the canal, sitting just at the top of Museumplein, which contains the Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum and many other must see sights. For art lovers, the Spiegelkwartier, or Mirror Quarter, begins around the corner from the hotel and is packed with art galleries, antique shops and classic canal houses. For a night out, Leidsplein is merely a stroll away with all of its bars, night clubs and the church cum music venue Paradiso, which can be seen from the hotel. To get to the Art Gallery Hotel, take trams 1, 2 or 5 from Central Station to Leidseplein and follow the street past Paradiso, the hotel is on the left hand side.

A continental breakfast buffet is served in the hotel's dining room between 08:00 and 10:30, consisting of bread, cheese, fruit, eggs and, of course, tea and coffee to jump start your morning. Tea and coffee facilities in the dining room can be used free of charge at any time of day. Lunch and dinner are not accommodated but, as with all Leidseplein hotels in Amsterdam, a dazzling array of restaurants is just moments from the front door. The nearby Korte Leidsedwarsstraat and Lange Leidsedwarsstraat are both crammed with Italian, Argentinean, Chinese and Greek restaurants, most of which offer superb meal deals due to the stiff competition in the area, making dining out near Leidseplein a great choice for budget travellers.
The Art Gallery Hotel's 18 rooms all feature light, breezy design and windows that fully open, the better to enjoy the view on a warm summers day. Living up to its name, the hotel features a copy of a Dutch masterpiece painting in each room. Room facilities are as standard for a 2 star hotel, with Basic rooms sharing a bathroom in the hall. Superior and Deluxe rooms feature a private bathroom with shower in each room as well as a television and hair dryer, on request. The hotel has one triple room, a bit of a climb at the top of the building, that has the same facilities as the Superior or Deluxe rooms. Wireless Internet is available throughout the hotel.
While not as all inclusive as the service provided in more expensive hotels, the Art Gallery Hotel Amsterdam provides the basic services of any 2 star hotel in Amsterdam. As well as the hotel's WiFi connection, those without laptops can use the computer in the lobby to get online, reception is 24-hours for night owls and the hotel has a luggage room to store bags while you wait to check in or out. For groups or families, an additional bed can also be placed in any room for an extra charge per night. The Art Gallery Hotel Amsterdam does not accept pets.
