The Otherside Coffeeshop in Amsterdam

Amsterdam Coffeeshop The OthersideThis classy Amsterdam coffee shop can be found on Reguliersdwarsstraat, in the heart of Amsterdam’s gay nightlife district. While originally a gay coffee shop and still very much gay friendly, The Otherside welcomes visitors of all types, provided they are open and welcoming to others.

The dark wood and faux stone interior makes for a more upmarket, stylish atmosphere than most Amsterdam coffee shops – this place even comes with chandeliers. Seating is plentiful if a little cramped on busy days, so be prepared to sit shoulder-to-shoulder with the people at the next table. Tables are reserved for those buying their smoking products at the bar and there is no wi-fi, which has the benefit that people tend to stay off their phones here. Music at The Otherside tends towards the jazzy and soulful as opposed to rock or techno.

One of the big draws here is the coffee shop menu, which offers a wide selection at good prices for such a central location. Everything comes in pre-bagged amounts at EUR 10, 20 and 35 for different sized bags, so service at the bar is fast if at times tending more towards the efficient than the friendly.
