What's On Amsterdam - March 2015

Magical Central Amsterdam 1965-1975

Stadsarchief, 13 March – 12 July
The Amsterdam City Archives present works by legendary Dutch photographer Cor Jaring, showing the heart of Amsterdam during the turbulent ‘60s and ‘70s. Jaring, an Amsterdam native, was the “court photographer” for the anarchist Provo movement that operated in the city at this time. His images form the basis for the understanding we have today of Amsterdam’s most famous protest movement. The archives can be found in the city centre, not far from Rembrandtplein, and are open until 17:00 each day, except Mondays.

Ripping Yarns

Seaman’s Centre, 14 March
Have you ever wanted to hear about modern-day life at sea, as told by actual sailors and seamen? Well, this 24H Amsterdam event is your chance. Amsterdam’s Seaman’s Centre is normally open only to those who make their living on the waves, but on this day members of the public are welcome to come and enjoy the stories these sailors have gathered on topics ranging from modern piracy to anti-terrorism measures. The centre is close to the city’s Westpoort and space is limited, so contacting the centre prior to arrival is recommended.
