Hostel The Globe Amsterdam
Party atmosphere to be expected of youth hostels throughout the world can be found here. With its central location, residents' bar and large rooms with private bathrooms, this is a good choice for groups of friends who are looking for a clean, functional and central Amsterdam hostel. This hostel is also smoker friendly, with a dedicated smoking area available. As with most Red Light hostels, don't expect high class luxury or a peaceful neighbourhood that will help you get a good night's rest.
The hostel is located on the northern edge of the Red Light District, just a short stroll from Nieuwmarkt and Dam Square. To find it from Central Station, take a left after crossing the busy intersection at the top of Damrak and follow the street that passes by the Green Light bar, Nieuwebrugsteeg. Follow this street as it turns a corner and take a left at the first bridge on the canal, Hostel The Globe should be right in front of you.

The hostel's bar serves a range of breakfasts to suit British or American tastes as well as lunch and dinner. It's not exactly haute cuisine, but what's on offer is decent food designed to satisfy a hearty hunger. If this isn't your thing, the nearby Chinatown has plenty of Thai and Chinese restaurants to choose from, while other restaurants and cafés can be found in almost every second building nearby.
Since this is a cross between a hostel and an Amsterdam youth hostel, the 20 rooms at Hostel The Globe range from range from twin, triple and quad rooms all the way up to 10 bed mixed dormitories. All rooms come with ensuite bathroom facilities, lockers and safes. Room prices include towels, sheets and city taxes, something that not every cheap Amsterdam hostel includes in the listed price.
This Amsterdam hostel has a 24 hour reception desk and no curfew; perfect for night owls, although you will need to be sure to have your room pass on you to get back in late at night without angering the night manager. Check in is also open all day long, although check out must happen before 10am. Luggage storage is available and there is free wireless Internet available in public areas. For those looking to get out and see a bit of the city, the friendly staff are more than happy to recommend any of a wide selection of tours offered in the surrounding area.
One of the most striking features of Hostel The Globe is the sports bar, which stays open almost all night, being closed only for two hours at 5am for cleaning. The bar has 9 screens that show a wide range of sporting events, from British premiership football to NFL playoffs and a pool table and dart board that help to round out the fun.
