Happy Birthday Chanel

Museum of Bags and Purses, 01 February – 5 May
To mark the 60th anniversary of the Chanel 2.55 bag, Amsterdam’s Museum of Bags and purses presents an exhibition dedicated to the iconic fashion symbol. The Chanel 2.55 is an updated version of Coco Chanel’s original bag, inspired by bags used by soldiers. The name 2.55 refers to the date she created the updated bag, February 1955. This bag has been worn by celebrities since the golden age of Hollywood up to the present day. The museum is open daily from 10am to 5pm and tickets cost EUR 9.50.

Rembrandt’s Late Pupils

Rembrandthuis, 12 February – 17 May
Running simultaneously to the Rijksmuseum’s Rembrandt exhibition, Amsterdam’s dedicated Rembrandt House museum takes the opportunity to focus on a less-explored aspect of the painter’s life: his work as a mentor and teacher. Rembrandt was a much sought after teacher in his later years, and this exhibition presents works by Nicolaes Maes, Willem Drost and Jacobus Leveck to name but a few, all of whom studied under the master painter in the 1650s. The museum is open from 10am to 6pm and tickets cost EUR 12.50.
