Reypenaer Cheese Tasting in Amsterdam
One of the new attractions in the city is the Reypenaer Dutch cheese tasting room. Arranged as a classroom in the cellar of the old 17the century townhouse where the Reypenaer Cheese showroom is located, the tasting gives you a possibility to evaluate different sorts of Dutch cheese with a glass of wine, port and naturally cold water, under the guidance of an expert cheese taster.
The Reypenaer Cheese
The Reypenaer cheese is produced with the long-established methods and matured in a 100 years old warehouse in Woerden, by the Wijngaard cheese company.
Aging is crucial for the traditional Dutch cheese making and all Dutch Gouda type cheeses are divided in the following categories: Jong (Young – aged less than 8 weeks), Belegen (Matured - aged 8-16 weeks), Extra Belegen (Extra (Matured – aged 7-8 months), Oude (Old – aged 10-12 months) and Overajrige (Very Old – aged 18 months or longer). The Reypenaer brand uses markings similar to the one widely used on French Cognac to introduce more differentiations for its sorts of very Old Dutch cheese.
The tasting
For just one hour you will become a student, tasting six different sorts of cheese and giving them notes.
The feel
The Reypenaer cheese is one of the best in the Netherlands and during the tasting the expert taster will advice you about the evaluation categories involved in the cheese appraisal process. A serene occasion to get to know better the traditional Dutch cheese.

walking: from the Central Station along the Singel Canal – 15 minutes
by public transport: trams line 1, 2, 5, 13, 17, busses line 142, 144, 170 all from the Central Station - exit at stop Dam; and walk direction Singel canal for 3 minutes
by car: park your car at De Kolk or De Bijenkorf car park, walk for 5 minutes
